How to Get to Know Yourself and Others
What day is it? If you’re like me you’re probably bored in the house if not you’re in the house bored and needless to say... I understand that, so I’m going to share one of my favorite activities I do with my best friend sans quarantine when we’re normally at each other's houses bored out of our minds but still want to hang out so we’re not bored alone.
Now mind you, I’ve known this woman since freshman year of high school and I feel like she's one of the few people I really know. But we still do these because we’re still those same high school girls who used to play MASH and those hand fortune tellers. And so this blog is for her because during these trying times I’ve only seen once on my way home from the grocery store because I made her go outside her house, stand on the porch and wave at me before returning home as that was the shortest time I’ve ever seen my friend.
By now you’re like, “gabby, tell us what the damn thing is or we’re exiting out and leaving your blog,” right? Fine, it’s questions as an activity. Questions to ask your best friend at a house party, questions to ask your romantic partner or spouse. Questions for your family members. Questions for your roommates because you’re all in this together. And last of all, questions for yourself or for you to journal- we can work on ourselves during these trying times too, ya know.
Note not all of these questions are actually scientific- granted I don’t think any of these questions are scientific but when you’re craving human contact and intimacy these will do in a pinch.
Tests to Get to Know Yourself
Myers Brigg
The latest trend in life is the Myers-Briggs test. Have people asked you what your 4 Letter combination is? The test is basically an introspective self-report questionnaire that consists of four different categories: introversion/extraversion, sensing/intuition, and judging/perception. For some people, it helps them understand you a lot better than just by getting to know you. There are also some employment opportunities that will ask you what your Myers Brigg is to see if you are a suitable candidate for the position. So there are a lot of free tests online but if you want further depth in your test you will have to pay. But I've included a free test below.

Human Design
There's this concept called human design which is all about decision-making. They can show you how you constantly make the right choices in your life. And it's a way of allowing your body's intelligence to guide you. The cool thing about human design is it takes into consideration your birth time and place to calculate your own personal chart. In this calculation, the positions of your sun moon and the planets at the time of your birth also play an important role. Much like astrology but it interprets the data differently and therefore is a different type of design. What is different about human design compared to other tests is that this one is considered logical and requires no beliefs. But the verbiage you're going to get in return is going to be very logical and Technical. In Human Design, there are four types: manifestors, generators, projectors, and reflectors. So finding out which one you are could be interesting.

Enneagram
Enneagram is basically a model of your personality divided up into nine basic types. They're all kind of interconnected and you take a test to Define what is your personality type. These nine different types of Range between numbers 1 through 9 each covering a different number of adjectives. It goes much deeper than that the further you read into it but it gives you a good diving Point into Who You Are. I personally recommend you take the test multiple times Throughout the year to find out who you really are. As I've taken this test and come up with multiple types as my top personality type.

Life Path Number
So another number that depends on your birth date is your numerology number. The numbers range from 1 to 9 each defining a specific life path. Meaning that your specific time of birth is supposed to follow a certain way. And in certain cases for example if you're a 2, 4, 6 you could have a master number which is actually an 11, 22, and 33, each of these numbers signifies a bigger path in life. I think it's interesting to know your life path number because it could give you a good idea of your destiny.

Astrology
If you've been following me for a while you know that I am a big fan of astrology. As an astrologer myself I definitely suggest you have a firm understanding of your own personal natal chart. For your natal chart you will need your birth time, your birthplace, and your birthdate, so time to break out that birth certificates for call your mom. Everything will come out to you looking weird as you'll find out that there's more than just your basic sun sign and you'll learn which planets are in which houses. But to get everything started you should learn your Sun, Moon, and Rising. Your sun sign is your basic personality, your moon sign is how you process emotions, And your rising sign is how the world sees you.

Gallup Strengthsfinder
I first heard of this type of test at an old place of employment and then look it up and she cost quite a penny. But it's a great indicator to help you succeed in work if you're looking to make an investment. Out of all of the tests, this is the only one that will actually cost you some kind of money but it will help you when applying for work as you'll be able to point out your strengths.

Color Oracle
Okay, check me out, check me out, this test is extremely simple but will blow your mind. The Color Oracle test is a series of color opinions where the top row are colors you find pleasing at the moment and the bottom row is a series of colors you currently do not find pleasing. But that's not all this test will reveal things that you are not ready to hear but that you should. It's very interesting and a lot of fun so I recommend that you take it with a friend and then compare answers.

True Colors
Much like the Myers Brigg or the Enneagram, the true colors test brakes you up into four different colors helps Define your personality so that you're able to grow at work. Another friend showed me this and it helps her when she works with her co-workers.

Ready to encounter how much of a bad person you are? Okay I don't literally mean that you're a bad person but figuratively speaking we all have a dark side so here's a fun quiz to see how not nice you really are. When I took this quiz some interesting things gave up and then I realized I had put up a lot of boundaries and answered them taking that into consideration. So, in conclusion, this is purely for fun do not take this out science.

If you're looking for a quick and dirty personality quiz the Big Five personality test is a great intro as it measures Various degrees of openness, Consciousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and neuroticism.

Much like the kokology tests, the philosophy experiment places you in a conundrum where you need to decide where you stand. I think this is so much fun because a) it's a great conversation starter and b) it really shows you where you stand.

I personally believe this questionnaire works with anyone, But it especially works with Partners as you're putting yourself in a position where you self-disclose a lot of your ideology and your personality through a series of questions to get more intimate throughout the list. This list was first released in the New York Times a couple of years ago and it got a lot of clout. Throughout the series of 36 questions, you're pushed to reveal a lot about yourself which makes it really interesting but can also open up a world to new discussions.

I'm a huge fan of the Holstee reflection cards ever since I found them on Kickstarter a couple of years ago. I purchased several packs and gave some packs away to friends and family. What is cool about these questions is that you can carry them in your pocket or use them on the dinner table as conversation starters. The questions vary from simple, light Questions to deep thought-provoking questions that will push your thinking limit.

We’re Not Really Strangers Questions
Another set of questions that I really like to have at the dinner table or the we're not really strangers questions where they ask you to be a little bit vulnerable about who you are and your boundaries. Some of the questions include: “something that has brought a smile to my face this week was ______” and “what are you feeling a lot of lately?” these allow you to open up if you have had problems being more open in the past or they allow you to self reflects where you need to put up some boundaries.

Kokology
I was introduced to kokology by my best friend And it's one of her favorite things in the world. Kokology comes from Japan and is inspired by Freud and Jung. Basically what it is is you read out a paragraph and then get asked a series of questions that you have to answer. Like, imagine a cube in a desert and how you describe that Cube determines how you feel about a certain being in your life. They recommend that you don't read ahead and that you don't think too deep but answer really honest and pretty quick for best results.

AskReddit Questions
If you were to ask me my favorite social media platform I would tell you that it's actually Reddit. Yes, I'm one of those people but that's besides the fact I'm introducing you to one of my favorite subreddits, r/askreddit. Apart from having several different entries with different questions that you can ask each other, going to r/askreddit in general and asking your friends the main questions is a great conversation starter to have. I'll include some of my favorite questionnaires but I definitely recommend you check out the top for more questions.

Journal Prompts
For Self-Growth One of the best things that I recommend doing in general but especially during a time where you're stuck inside all day is to journal. It helps you learn about who you are, self-reflect, and grow as a human. I start every Journal entry with four categories: gratitude, wins, things to improve, and things I have to do today. I list three things in each category. Then I move into a major topic point and journal about it.
