Where to Shop to Make the Foods You Love Right at Home

Staying home is something we’re all doing now because it’s the responsible thing to do. However, there are some things we don’t want to miss out on, like our favorite snacks or favorite treats! In the perfect world, we’d still be able to continue to support most of our local businesses and still continue to stay home.

I’ve been spending the last couple of months learning how to make some of our favorites and finding out where to buy them so we can make them from our home at our convenience. Here’s my list of where to shop to make your favorite treats right here!

Make Your Own Mangonadas

We’re all huge fans of mangonadas and if you’re not opting to go out to get one every week, I can show you how to make your own at home! Well, they’re pretty easy- you just need to know where to get everything for your homemade treat!

Make Your Own Candy Shop

We all love Mexican candy and we can collectively agree that we hate waiting for the ice cream man because sometimes he takes off even if you run after him waving a dollar. Wait, is that just me? The only problem with option is that you’re going to have way to much candy and will have to learn self-regulation.

Make Your Own Shave Ice

I honestly recommend at this time you make an investment in buying a snowcone machine. They’re so affordable and you’ll be able to make shave ice whenever you want. Best of all you can find your favorite flavors or make your own to have the perfect treat all year round (because Texas is so hot).

Alamo Candy Co

I was looking for my favorite flavors of shave ice syrups and this spot had the smaller bottles which were perfect for me.

Make Your Own Boba Tea

If you know me you know boba is my vice. I’m literally hooked on it so much so that when we got orders to stay home, I was like how am I supposed to get my weekly boba? I had to learn to do it. The first time I made a lot expecting it to be okay in the fridge and have enough to eat some every day. Wrong. I’ve learned that you make like super small batches of 30-45 bubbles that’s it. Like your average shop gives you around 15-20 per drink anyways.

Make Your Own Fruit Cup

You can technically make your own fruit cup from any grocery store but we’re trying to support local and small businesses here. Plus, these sometimes have more affordable produce for you! Personally, I love making aguas frescas so buying large quantities of melon or sandia makes my life much better.

Chicho Boys

One of my favorite fruit shops- Chicho Boys’ often carries a lot of tropical fruit which is awesome! They also have a fruit cup stand in the back for on the road.

Make Your Own Halo-Halo

If you’ve never had halo-halo then I’m sorry friend. I’m seriously sorry. It’s one of my favorite things to eat to cool off. It’s different and honestly an experience of its own. I had to get used to beans being sweet for starters.

Sari-Sari Filipino Restaurant, Market, & Bakery

The OG spot for all Filipino goodies where you can find everything you need for that halo-halo. And then get one for the road as “inspo.”
